Over on the Titans’ side, they’ve had a rough season as well. Detroit opened with losses to UIC and Notre Dame, then beat Cleary University for their first W of the year. Losses to Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Michigan State and DePaul came in the next four games, then another win over Niagara. Over eight games the Titans have managed a 2-6 run thus far in the season.

Matched up against Niagara on Saturday, the Titans were up by nine points at the break. Detroit was outscored 37-32 the rest of the way but held on for the 70-66 win in the end. Topping the scorers was London Maiden with 16 points and eight boards. Orlando Lovejoy added 12 points with five boards and four assists, while Lance Stone had 11 points with three rebounds in 18 minutes of work for the Titans during the winning effort.

I’ll take a stab on IUPUI. That said, I’m not touching this one. There’s not a lot to get excited about here, though it should be a fairly competitive game if both teams play to their capabilities. In any event, the Panthers got past a struggling Morehead State team in their last outing thanks to 45.7 percent shooting and 14-of-42 (33.3 percent) from outside. IUPUI did get blasted on the boards though—posting a 45-29 deficit—and only got to the line nine times to the Eagles 32 attempts. The Panthers are scoring great this year, though; they’ve got 80 or more points in all nine games.

As for Detroit, they shot a tepid 40 percent from the field and just 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from outside in their win over Niagara. The Titans did very well up front though, hitting a 38-22 advantage on the boards with 30 points in the paint. Detroit has a combined 145 points in their past two outings, so we could very well have a decent-sized total in this one.
