The Sycamores opened the season on a 2-2 stretch with losses to Charlotte and Duke sandwiched around wins over Illinois Tech and SIU Edwardsville. Indiana State would recover with wins over Louisiana Tech and Ball State in their next pair, giving the Sycamores a 4-2 run across their first half dozen games of the season.

In Wednesday’s game versus LA Tech, the Sycamores were in trouble at halftime, trailing 37-26. Indiana State made a game of it in the second with a 47-38 run but ended up losing a tough one 75-73 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Xavier Hall with 17 points, five assists and two rebounds. Camp Wagner added 15 points with four boards and Markus Harding had 14 points with three boards and two assists in the losing effort.

I might take a stab on Alcorn State here, but realistically I’m not touching this one. The Braves were able to hang around with Oklahoma in the first half of their last outing but lost the handle after halftime. Alcorn State shot just 37.7 percent from the field and coughed up 19 turnovers, which accounted for most of their issues in the defeat. The Braves did haul in 37 rebounds and stayed pretty competitive in the paint (a 24-20 deficit), however. Alcorn State has been below 65 points in four of the last five games, so they’re going to have to find some scoring in this one.

As for Indiana State, they couldn’t recover from a bad first half versus LA Tech this week, despite shooting a nice 52.7 percent from the field. The major discrepancy was on the boards, where the Sycamores were outfoxed 33-19. The good news is that Indiana State is scoring well over the last two games, but they need a better effort up front.
