Grand Canyon Antelopes Betting Preview

The Antelopes have been a pretty consistent team this year, with only a couple instances of consecutive losses. GCU opened on a 6-4 run, then beat Chicago State, Saint Louis, San Diego, Bryant, and Southern Utah in the next five. After a loss to Utah Valley, Grand Canyon beat Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, Southern Utah, Utah Tech, Seattle, and Utah Valley before another loss to Cal Baptist. Since then it’s been wins over Tarleton State, TX-Arlington, Cal Baptist, TX-Arlington, Seattle, and Utah Tech in succession. That gives the Lopes a 23-6 record across 29 games this season so far. 

In the Utah Tech home rematch on Thursday, the Antelopes entered the second half with a 43-33 edge. Grand Canyon posted a 47-35 run the rest of the way and powered out the win in the end 90-68. Tops in scoring was JaKobe Coles with 19 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Ray Harrison added 13 points with four steals, and Caleb Shaw led the bench players with 13 points and nine boards. Duke Brennan doubled up on 12 points and 10 rebounds during the victory as well. 

Abilene Christian Wildcats Betting Preview

Over on the Abilene Christian side, they’ve had mixed results this season, to put it mildly. The Wildcats opened on an 8-5 stretch across their first 13 outings, then fell in succession versus Texas A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Utah Valley, Seattle, Grand Canyon, and Cal Baptist. After a win over Tarleton State and losses to Texas-Arlington and Cal Baptist, Abilene Christian took out Utah Tech, Southern Utah, Seattle, Southern Utah, and Utah Tech in succession. Since then it’s been a 1-2 run with a win over TX-Arlington in between losses to Tarleton State and Utah Valley. That gives the Wildcats a 15-15 mark across their first 30 games so far. 

Matched up against Utah Valley at home on Thursday, the Wildcats entered the locker room with a 36-29 deficit. Abilene Christian was outscored 37-31 the rest of the way and lost 73-60 in the end. Tops in scoring was Leonardo Bettiol with his 20 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Bradyn Hubbard added 17 points with nine rebounds, while Nasir DeGruy led the bench scoring with six points and two steals in 22 minutes.

I’ll stay with GCU in this one. The Antelopes are on a nice run these days and coming off a decisive win over a struggling Utah Tech team. Grand Canyon hit 58.5 percent from the field in that one with a 36-27 rebounding edge. The Lopes did miss 10 of their 33 free throws (69.7 percent) and had 11 turnovers, though. 

Grand Canyon took a victory at home on January 16 by a score of 88-58 the last time these teams met up. The Antelopes shot well in that one also (53.6 percent) and had a 38-35 rebounding edge. GCU did get into turnover trouble (13 for 15 Wildcats points) however, and missed 10 of 30 free throws (66.7 percent). I’d like to see the Lopes clean up the mistakes in this road rematch, but they should be in control overall.
