Georgia State Panthers Betting Preview

The Panthers didn’t start out the season too badly, but since November 22 they’ve been able to bag consecutive wins just once. Georgia State opened on a 4-3 stretch with wins over Ball State, Toccoa Falls, NC Central, and Tulsa. The losses otherwise were versus Mississippi State, Jacksonville State, and Austin Peay. A losing streak came next versus Kentucky, Kennesaw State, Charlotte, Auburn, Troy, Mercer, and South Alabama, then three wins over Louisiana, Georgia Southern, and Coastal Carolina. Georgia State dropped their next four outings versus Texas State, Arkansas State, Marshall, and James Madison though, giving the Panthers a 7-14 record through the first 21 games of the 2024-25 campaign. 

On Thursday versus Marshall, Georgia State did a nice job in the first half, heading into the break with a 51-37 edge. The Panthers were outgunned 44-34 in the second half however, ultimately leading to a close win 85-81. Tops in scoring was Cesare Edwards with 27 points, five boards, and four assists. Both Toneari Lane (three rebounds) and Nick McMullen (eight rebounds; one assist; one steal) chipped in with 14 points apiece as well. 

Appalachian State Mountaineers Betting Preview

Over on the App State side, they’ve got one rough run in the books this year stretching from late November into January. Other than that, however, the Mountaineers are doing well overall for the most part. App State hit a 5-2 run out of the gate, taking out St. Andrews, Queens U, William & Mary, Sam Houston, and Colgate. A 1-5 run came next with a lone win over Mid-Atlantic Christian surrounded by losses to UNC Wilmington, High Point, Louisiana, North Texas, and Troy. After wins over Texas State, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, Old Dominion, and James Madison again, App State lost two of their next three to Arkansas State and Old Dominion (with a win over LA Monroe) for a 12-9 record through 21 games so far. 

Matched up versus Old Dominion on Wednesday, App State was in control 38-33 after the first half. The Mountaineers were outscored 45-39 the rest of the way, however, resulting in a tough loss 78-77. Leading the team in scoring was Myles Tate with 23 points, two rebounds, and eight assists with a pair of blocks. CJ Huntley collected 10 rebounds and eight points, while Alonzo Dodd chipped in with 16 points, four assists, and three rebounds.

Georgia State vs Appalachian State Prediction 

I’ll stay with Appalachian State. The Mountaineers do need a good bounce-back performance here, however, following their rough one-point loss at home to Old Dominion. App State was out-rebounded 35-30 in that one and gave up 49.1 percent shooting from the field. The 12 Monarchs points off nine turnovers didn’t help either. The Mountaineers aren’t the greatest scoring team in the world this year; they’ve been below 67 points in four of the last five games. Still, if Appalachian State can control the pace and focus on defense on Saturday they should be okay. Hitting the 70-plus points mark certainly wouldn’t hurt, though. 

As for Georgia State, they’ve given up 81 or more points in five straight games. There should be plenty of room for the Mountaineers to score in this one.
