Fairfield Stags Betting Preview

Fairfield didn’t start out the year too terribly, but it’s been a pretty rough run since early December. The Stags managed to win five of their first nine outings, then hit a losing streak for five games versus Mount St. Mary’s, Central Connecticut, Monmouth, Columbia and Merrimack. Fairfield won three of the next five over Iona, Niagara and Manhattan, then hit a 1-6 stretch with a lone win over Marist. Otherwise it was losses to Merrimack, Quinnipiac, Iona, Sacred Heart, Saint Peter’s and Manhattan in that time. The Stags have since picked it up with consecutive wins over Rider and Mount St. Mary’s though, giving the team an 11-17 overall record across their first 28 games of the 2024-25 season. 

In the Mount St. Mary’s home matchup on Friday, the Stags kicked things off with a 33-29 advantage. Fairfield kept it up from there on a 36-33 run and took the eventual win 69-62 in the end. Prophet Johnson was the leading team scorer on 20 points with five boards, five assists and four steals. Kyle Jenkins added 14 points with two steals and two blocks, while Jamie Bergens had 13 points with six rebounds and three assists in 34 minutes of action. 

Sacred Heart Pioneers Betting Preview

Over on the Sacred Heart side, they’ve had a pretty rocky year themselves but they’ve done better overall since late January. The Pioneers went just 4-8 in their first dozen outings, then managed consecutive wins over Manhattanville and Canisius as the calendar year flipped over to 2025. After losses to Merrimack, Mount St. Mary’s, Siena and Saint Peter’s came wins over Canisius, Niagara, Manhattan, Rider and Fairfield. Since then it’s been a 2-3 stretch with wins over Merrimack and Marist among losses to Quinnipiac, Siena and Saint Peter’s in that time. That gives the Pioneers a 13-15 overall run through 28 games this year so far. 

In the Marist matchup on Friday, the Pioneers jumped out to a 32-24 edge by the end of the first half. Sacred Heart kept it up on a 35-30 run from there and won the game at home 67-54. Bryce Johnson was the team’s leading scorer on 22 points with seven rebounds, three steals and one assist in 36 minutes of work on the floor. The only other team player to finish in double-figures was Tanner Thomas with 16 points and eight rebounds in 34 minutes.

I’ll just stay with Sacred Heart here. The Pioneers took out a good Marist team in their latest victory, despite shooting just 38.7 percent from the field. Sacred Heart managed to score 15 points off 15 Foxes turnovers and held the opposition to just 38.2 percent shooting on the other side. Sacred Heart has won two of the last three games, but they’ve been below 68 points in both victories. 

The Pioneers managed a 77-71 road win the last time these teams met up back on February 8. Sacred Heart shot well in that one (45 percent) and had a 40-36 rebounding edge. A repeat performance will put the Pioneers in great shape for a potential cover here in the home rematch.
