DePaul Blue Demons Betting Preview
The Blue Demons started out the season on a great run, but they’ve hit the skids since late November. DePaul won their first seven straight games, then hit a 2-4 stretch with wins over only Wichita State and Loyola Maryland. Otherwise, it was losses to Texas Tech, Providence, St. John’s, and Northwestern at that time. Since then DePaul has gone just 2-9 overall. The wins were over Georgetown and Seton Hall. The losses came versus UConn, Villanova, Seton Hall, Xavier, Marquette, Creighton, Butler, UConn, and Villanova in succession otherwise, giving the Blue Demons a shaky 11-13 overall record through their first 24 games of the year.Â
In their home rematch with Villanova on Wednesday, the Blue Demons came out of the first half with a 29-26 deficit. DePaul didn’t get any closer than that on a 30-23 second-half deficit and lost 59-49 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was David Thomas, who came off the bench for 16 points, one assist, and one steal. CJ Gunn added 13 points with five rebounds, five steals and one assist. Layden Blocker chipped in six points and six assists as well.Â
Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview
Over on the Marquette side, they were doing great through January but this month hasn’t been good to them in the record column. The Golden Eagles won their first eight straight games, then hit a 1-2 run with a win over Wisconsin in between losses to Iowa State and Dayton. Marquette hit a 9-1 stretch in their next 10 outings, falling to only Xavier amid wins over Butler, Xavier, Providence, Creighton, Georgetown, DePaul, Seton Hall, Villanova, and Butler in that time. Since then Marquette has hit the skids with three straight losses, though. Those defeats have come courtesy of UConn, St. John’s, and Creighton in succession, giving the Golden Eagles an 18-6 overall run through their first 24 games so far this season.Â
Matched up against Creighton over the weekend, the Eagles were in trouble with a 43-36 deficit after the first half. Marquette was outscored 34-31 the rest of the way and ended up losing 77-67 when the game was finished. Tops in scoring was Kam Jones with his 27 points, six assists, and four rebounds. David Joplin added 22 points with eight boards, and Stevie Mitchell finished on 10 points, two boards, one assist, and one steal in 19 minutes.Â

DePaul vs Marquette PredictionÂ
I’ll stay with Marquette. The Golden Eagles desperately need a good performance here, and I think they’ll get it. In their latest loss to a pretty good Creighton team, Marquette looked lost at times on a rough 36.1 percent shooting from the field. If there’s good news, it’s that the Golden Eagles had a 37-34 rebounding edge and just five turnovers.Â
The last time these teams met up was back on January 14 in an 85-83 overtime road victory for the Eagles. Marquette was outmuscled on the boards 46-31 in that one and gave up 51.6 percent shooting. There’s plenty to clean up, but I like the Golden Eagles to assert themselves at home and power one out here.Â
