Coppin State vs Virginia Tech Prediction
I’ll take a stab on Coppin State here. One of the problems with the Eagles last year is that they knew from the very beginning that their season wouldn’t extend past March 5. That’s because Coppin State was serving a postseason suspension tied to poor Academic Progress Rate scores. For what it’s worth, the Eagles have something to look forward to in 2026-27 as the MEAC Tournament—and potentially the NCAA Tournament—are back in play. Coppin State plays some marquis teams this year but the travel attached to the schedule is minimal. If this group can gel quickly they may surprise some people.
As for Virginia Tech, they turned down an invite to the NIT last year which cut their season a bit shorter than it may have been. With three starters back from that 19-win group, the Hokies have the goods to do a bit of damage in a crowded ACC. For now though, I don’t think they’ll quite cover against a scrappy-looking Coppin State team.

Coppin State Eagles Betting Preview
Last year the Eagles had a campaign that they’d like to forget. Coppin State went just 7-24 overall with a 5-9 stretch in the MEAC. With that result, the Eagles finished behind Howard, Morgan State, NC Central, Norfolk State, South Carolina State and Maryland Eastern Shore in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference standings. Coppin State did have a four-game win streak going in February but closed the season with losses to Norfolk State, Howard and Morgan State.
This year the Eagles enter the fourth season of head coach Larry Stewart’s tenure. During his first three years Stewart has only managed a 15-75 record, so any progress this season should be welcome. The team will have two of its five starters back in the fold though, which is something of an encouraging sign. A total of 10 players, in fact, will be back from that squad. That said, considering the team was only able to win seven games it’s anyone’s guess how effective they’ll be in 2026-27.

Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview
Over on the Virginia Tech side, they had something of a middling year in 2025-26 and got lost amid a crowded ACC group. The Hokies went 19-13 overall with an 8-10 run in the conference, which put them ahead of only Wake Forest, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Boston College and Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech finished off the regular season on a sketchy 2-4 run over the final six games, then faced Wake Forest in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The Hokies lost that one in overtime.
Moving ahead to 2026-27, the Hokies have Mike Young on the sideline for his eighth year. The good news is that he’ll have three of his five starters back in the fold for 2026-27, namely Amani Hansberry, Tyler Johnson and Ben Hammond. Last year Hansberry averaged 14.3 PPG and 7.4 RPG so he should figure to be a focal point of the offense this season.
