The Depaul Blue Demons come into the 2025-26 season looking to improve on a step forward in 2024-25, finishing 14-20 overall including 4-16 in Big East conference play, which was a big improvement from the 3 wins the year prior. CJ Gunn is back as Depaul’s top scorer from last year’s squad, after logging 12.9 PPG with 4 RPG and gets some support offensively with Kaleb Banks transferring over from Tulane, logging 14.7 PPG and 6.7 RPG for the Green Wave. N.J. Benson is back as Depaul’s anchor in the front court after adding 9 PPG and 6.2 RPG and Layden Blocker had 9.5 PPG with 3.1 APG in the Blue Demon backcourt last season. I’m on Depaul in this one. Bussie was a solid coach at Alcorn State the last few years and I have no doubts that he will do some solid work at Chicago State going forward. However, even in Bussie’s prime days at Alcorn, the step up games, his teams would get crushed and it was only when he took his teams into conference play where they would look strong. Depaul’s M.O. over the last few years has been look strong in non-conference play before being flattened in the Big East and it’s worked like clockwork. From Holtmann, to Stubblefield, Leitao, Purnell and even Jerry Wainwright. It’s the story of Depaul basketball and I thinkt he story remains true here. Give me the Blue Demons.
