Army Black Knights Betting Preview

Army opened up the year on a pretty spotty run record-wise, but they’ve been better since early January. The Knights went just 6-8 in their first 14 outings, taking losses to Duke, Marist, Manhattan, Cornell, George Washington, Binghamton, Colgate, and Boston University during that time. A win streak over Loyola MD, Lehigh, Lafayette, Boston U, and Holy Cross came in the next five outings, then a 1-2 run that featured a win over Colgate around losses to Navy and American U. Since then Army has recovered with a pair of wins over Holy Cross and Bucknell. That gives the Knights a 14-10 overall record through 24 games this year. 

In the Bucknell matchup on Saturday, the Knights jumped out to a six-point halftime lead but gave it away in the second half. Following a couple of overtime periods, Army ended with a hard-fought 116-110 win in the end, though. Ryan Curry topped the team with his 30 points, two rebounds, and one steal in the victory. Jalen Rucker chipped in 25 points with four steals, and Josh Scovens had 23 points with six assists and five boards. 

Loyola MD Greyhounds Betting Preview

Over on the Loyola MD side, they’ve been spotty in the record column all year and it’s resulted in a sub .500 run thus far. The Greyhounds went 5-4 over their first nine games with wins over Lancaster Bible College, NJIT, VMI, Coppin State, and Mount St. Mary’s. A 3-5 run came next featuring losses to Hampton, DePaul, Holy Cross, Army, and American U among wins over Lehigh (twice) and Navy. Since then it’s been a 2-4 run across the last six games. Those wins have come versus Boston U and Lafayette. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Lafayette, Holy Cross, Bucknell, and Colgate, giving the Greyhounds a 10-13 record through 23 games this year. 

Matched up against the Raiders on Saturday, the Greyhounds came out of the locker room looking up at a 34-25 advantage on the scoreboard. Loyola MD was outpaced 57-34 the rest of the way however, resulting in a sizable loss of 82-68 by the game’s end. Jacob Theodosiou posted 32 points with six rebounds and four assists in the defeat. Milos Ilic was also in double-figures with 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists in 19 minutes of work.

Army vs Loyola MD Prediction 

I’ll stay with Army I suppose. The Knights powered past a middling Bucknell team at home in their last outing, but they didn’t look great doing it. Army shot a nice 58.2 percent from the field in that one but also gave up 56.2 percent on the other side and had 15 turnovers for 20 Bisons points. Still, the good news is that the Knights are scoring pretty well these days. They’ve got 68 or more points in four straight—a 3-1 run. 

These teams last met up back on January 8 in a close 74-72 Army escape at home. The Knights were out-rebounded 36-27 in that one but cleaned up on 12 points off 13 Greyhounds turnovers. Both teams shot well (above 52 percent) so if that trend repeats we’ll have a fairly high total here. I like Army to eke one out but I’m not super confident in them.
