Alcorn State Braves Betting Preview
Last season the Braves took a step back in the win column. Alcorn State finished up the year with an 11-21 overall run and an 11-7 record in the SWAC—meaning the team failed to get a non-conference win. That effort would put the Braves behind Southern, Jackson State, Bethune-Cookman, Texas Southern and Alabama State in the standings. Alcorn State finished the regular season on a spotty 3-3 run, then had a quick appearance in the SWAC Tournament. After a 69-60 loss to Bethune-Cookman in the opening game, the Braves’ season was done.
In their Tuesday opener matchup versus Florida State, the Braves were down 58-44 by the end of the first half. Alcorn State was outpaced 50-32 from there in a 108-76 blowout road loss. Leading scorer Nick Woodard had 16 points with six rebounds, and Davian Williams had 13 points with six rebounds in 28 minutes of work during the defeat.
South Alabama Jaguars Betting Preview
Over on the South Alabama side, they made some improvements record-wise last year and finished with a 21-11 overall record—much better than the .500 run at 16-16 in the 2023-24 campaign. The Jaguars went 13-5 in the Sun Belt as well, giving them a share of the regular-season conference championship with James Madison, Troy and Arkansas State. South Alabama’s Sun Belt Tournament life went quickly as well; they fell in the opening game 74-71 versus Arkansas State, ending their campaign on March 9.
South Alabama has one game under their belts as well this year: a Monday opener matchup versus Toledo on the road. In that one the Jags held a 39-26 halftime lead. Things got interesting in the second on a 48-37 deficit but South Alabama held on for the win 76-74. Tops in scoring was Adam Olsen with 23 points, and Peyton Law added 18 points with six boards and three rebounds. Randy Brady had 10 rebounds to lead the team on the glass, while both Chaze Harris and Jayden Cooper put up 10 points apiece.

Alcorn State vs South Alabama Prediction
I’ll likely stick with the Jaguars but it’s a coin flip. South Alabama had a wild game versus Toledo this week and there’s plenty to clean up, but a win is a win. The Jaguars shot a nice 55.2 percent from the field in that one with a 35-21 rebounding advantage. The 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) from the line was the ugliest stat from the victory but South Alabama made up for it in the paint with a 48-22 scoring advantage. I’d like to see the defense a little tighter here as well; The Rockets shot 47.3 percent from the field, 45.5 percent (15-of-33) from outside and had 21 team assists.
As for Alcorn State, they didn’t stand much chance against FSU this week but did a pretty good job shooting (51 percent) and rebounding (a 35-32 deficit). The turnovers (21) and free throws (16-of-27 for 59.3 percent) were quite ugly, though. I could see the Braves covering here if they can make some adjustments.
