Akron vs Louisiana Prediction

I’ll stick with Akron. The Zips will be a new-look squad in a lot of ways this year, but they should retain much of their culture and work ethic from the last several seasons. In even better news, Evan Mahaffey will be able to return to the team this year, and his presence can’t be understated. The team may not be as quick and dynamic this year, but they’ll be able to adapt to most styles of play.

As for Louisiana, they started out on a rough run last year, fighting through injuries. The good news is that the Cajuns went 6-6 down the stretch and should have some momentum and positivity heading into the 2026-27 season. It’s a better team overall and they should take a step forward if all goes well.

We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Akron vs Louisiana pick. We will examine the recent form and player performances for both teams, as well as the recent betting trends and streaks pertaining to this matchup. As we conclude, we will tie it all together with a summary that produces a sensible pick for a favorable betting outcome in this game.

Akron Zips Betting Preview

Akron had a pretty nice season overall in 2025-26. The Zips rolled to an excellent 29-6 record with a 17-1 run in Mid-American Conference matchups. That was second only to Miami-OH’s historic 18-0 run, but the Zips still managed to get the last laugh with a MAC Tournament championship. Akron lost in the First Round of the national tourney to Texas Tech.

Moving ahead to this upcoming season, the Zips have a new head coach in Dustin Ford, who is a former assistant with the squad. He’ll have six returning players this season, with three of them being redshirts last year. The other three combined for only 216 points in 817 minutes. That equates to just seven percent of the scoring returning for 2026-27.

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Betting Preview

Over on the Cajuns’ side, they didn’t have a great campaign a season ago. Louisiana limped to an 11-22 overall record with a 7-11 run in Sun Belt games, which put them ahead of only Georgia State and LA-Monroe in the standings. The Cajuns beat Georgia State in the conference tournament before falling to James Madison and going home for good.

This year Louisiana will be entering the second season for head coach Quannas White. He’ll have two starters returning to the fold, which bodes well for year-over-year chemistry. Jamyron Keller played in only two games due to a foot injury last season, and he’s now healthy. De’Vion Lavergne is another solid returnee after his 9.9 PPG filling in for Keller.
