New Orleans Privateers Betting Preview

The Privateers have had quite the rough season so far, with only a handful of scattered wins. New Orleans beat only Lindenwood and Tulane in their first 16 outings, then pulled off consecutive victories over Lamar and East Texas A&M in January. After that came a losing streak versus Northwestern State, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, SE Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, McNeese, Nicholls, Northwestern State, and East Texas A&M in succession, giving the Privateers an ugly 4-25 run through the first 29 games.

In their weekend game versus UT Rio Grande Valley, the Privateers were outscored 42-37 in the first half on the way to an 88-78 loss. Leading scorer JR Jacobs put up 20 points with six boards, four assists, and four steals.

Texas A&M-CC Islanders Betting Preview

Over on the Texas A&M-CC side, they had a nice run going in December/January, but otherwise, it’s been a pretty choppy run overall. The Islanders posted a spotty 7-6 opening through 13 games, then beat Schreiner, SE Louisiana, New Orleans, UTRGV, Northwestern State, and Incarnate Word in the next six. A 4-7 run came next with wins over Nicholls, East Texas A&M, Incarnate Word, and Houston Christian among losses to Houston Christian, McNeese, UTRGV, Stephen F. Austin, Lamar, McNeese, and Nicholls. That would give the Islanders a 17-13 mark across their first 30 games of the 2024-25 campaign.

Matched up against SE Louisiana over the weekend, the Islanders hit a 33-27 advantage in the first half. Texas A&M-CC kept it up from there on a 35-27 advantage and took the win in the end 68-54. Garry Clark led the team with 16 points with nine rebounds and two assists, while Jaden Walker had 10 boards with four assists and 12 points for a double-double. Owen Dease chipped in 12 points in 27 minutes of work as well.

Why the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders will win

  • New Orleans has lost each of its last 12 games against the Southland Conference.
  • Texas A&M–Corpus Christi has won 14 of its last 15 games at American Bank Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • New Orleans has lost the first half in each of its last four road games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

New Orleans vs Texas A&M-CC Prediction

I’ll stay with Texas A&M-CC. Probably not touching this one though, as there’s not a lot to get excited about if you’re not a fan of either team. The Islanders are coming off a solid win over a decent SE Louisiana team, so that’s something. In that one, Texas A&M-CC shot 50.9 percent from the field with a 41-29 rebounding edge but did have 13 turnovers for 10 Lions points. The Islanders haven’t been scoring too badly lately either, with 68 or more points in four of the last five (a 3-2 run).

Back on January 6 when these teams last met, the Islanders powered out a 97-83 road win. Texas A&M-CC shot very well in that one (58.7 percent) with a 37-29 rebounding advantage and 13 points off nine Privateers turnovers. New Orleans didn’t shoot too badly themselves (43.9 percent) and scored 11 points on 12 Islanders turnovers. It’s tough siding with the Privateers during the road rematch, though. I’ll stick with Texas A&M-CC here.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Texas A&M-CC Islanders -15
