Jacksonville State Gamecocks Betting Preview
Jacksonville State started out the year on a pretty choppy run but they’ve been much better since mid-January. The Gamecocks managed to go 9-7 over their first 16 outings, taking losses to Air Force, Toledo, James Madison, South Alabama, Missouri, Kennesaw State, and Middle Tennessee during that stretch. After a winning streak over Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston, UTEP, New Mexico State, FIU, Liberty, Middle Tennessee, and Western Kentucky, the Gamecocks hit a 2-2 run. Those wins were over UTEP and Louisiana Tech. The losses were versus Sam Houston and New Mexico State, giving the Gamecocks a 19-9 overall record.Â
In the UTEP matchup last weekend, the Gamecocks came out of the break sporting a 39-29 advantage. Jacksonville State hit a 36-34 deficit the rest of the way but still won 73-65 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Jaron Pierre with 23 points, nine boards, one assist, and one steal. Mason Nicholson added 14 points with seven boards and one assist, while Marcellus Brigham put up 11 points with four rebounds and one assist.Â
Liberty Flames Betting Preview
Over on the Liberty side, they had a spotty run going in January but outside of that, it’s been a great campaign thus far. The Flames opened the season on a nifty 12-2 run, taking losses to only Florida Atlantic on November 16 and Western Kentucky on January 2 during that time. A 5-3 run came next with wins over Middle Tennessee, Sam Houston, New Mexico State, FIU, and Kennesaw State among losses to LA Tech, UTEP, and Jacksonville State. Since then it’s been five straight wins over LA Tech, Sam Houston, New Mexico State, UTEP, and Florida International. That gives Liberty a 22-5 overall run through 27 games so far this year.Â
In the FIU matchup on Saturday, the Flames posted a 30-19 opening run, then closed on a 28-26 advantage in the second half. The result was a 58-45 win in the end for Liberty. tops in scoring was Taelon Peter with 14 points, six boards, and two steals off the bench. Kaden Metheny added 12 points with two assists, while Jayvon Maughmer had 11 points and five rebounds in 31 minutes of action on the floor.Â

Jacksonville State vs Liberty PredictionÂ
I’ll lean toward Liberty. The Flames didn’t play their best against a struggling FIU team in their last outing but still got the win. Liberty shot 42.6 percent from the field but also had a 32-29 rebounding deficit and had 18 turnovers for 18 Panthers points in an overall sloppy game (34 total turnovers). The Flames have won five straight games but they’ve also been below 65 points in three of the last four outings.Â
Liberty took a loss 72-61 on the road the last time these teams saw each other back on February 1. The Flames had a bad second half in that one and shot just 40.7 percent from the field. I like Liberty to get some revenge in the home rematch, but I’d also like to see a higher points total and some better rebounding. This should be a pretty close matchup overall though, and an entertaining one to watch.Â
