The Hornets really only have one good three-game run this year. Otherwise, it’s been a struggle. The result was a 7-19 record across the first 26 outings. 

In their Thursday game versus Weber State, Sacramento State scored 40 in both the first and second halves on the way to a tight road win 80-77. Leading team contributor Jacob Holt notched a double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds in the victory effort. 

Idaho State Bengals Betting Preview

Over on the Idaho State side, they’ve had a choppy year and have thus far been unable to reach the .500 mark for long. The Bengals were 8-8 over their first 16 games, taking losses to Arizona State, USC, Cal State Fullerton, UCLA, South Dakota, Utah Valley, Northern Colorado, and Weber State during that time. The next eight outings were a 3-5 run though, with wins over only Eastern Washington, Idaho, and Weber State. The losses otherwise during that stretch were versus Sacramento State, Portland State, Northern Colorado, Montana, and Montana State. That would give the Bengals an 11-13 run through their first 24 games of the season. 

Matched up against Portland State on Thursday, the Bengals jumped out to a 44-31 halftime edge. Idaho State was outscored 43-38 the rest of the way but held on for the win in the end 82-74. Dylan Darling posted a double-double in the victory with 16 points and 13 assists with seven rebounds and three steals. Connor Hollenbeck also scored 16 points with two rebounds in 20 minutes of work on the floor during the win.

I’ll probably just stay with Idaho State here. The Bengals put together a nice home victory against a decent Portland State team this week. Idaho State shot 52.7 percent from the field in that one with a 32-27 rebounding edge and 18 team assists. The Bengals gave up a lot on the other side shooting-wise (47.5 percent) but it all worked out. It was a much-needed victory after consecutive losses with fewer than 70 points scored in each. 

These teams last met up back on January 25 in a 75-71 home win for Sac State. In that one, the Hornets shot pretty well (46.3 percent) but also got out-rebounded 41-31 (17-9 offensive) along the way. The 14 points off 11 Bengals turnovers helped out, but Sacramento State was pretty sloppy with the ball themselves (12 turnovers). Idaho State needs to shoot better (38.6 percent) in the home rematch, but they should be pretty well-positioned to get a little revenge this time.
