Central Arkansas Bears Betting Preview

Central Arkansas hasn’t been able to maintain form this year, and they’ve racked up the Ls along the way. During their 5-10 opening, the Bears beat only Randall U, UNC Asheville, the Citadel, Southwestern Christian, and Bellarmine. A losing streak versus Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast, North Florida, Jacksonville, Austin Peay, and Lipscomb would come next before a win over West Georgia. Losses to North Alabama, Queens U, Austin Peay, and Jacksonville came next before an OT win over North Florida. Through their first 27 games of the 2024-25 season, that gave the Bears a 7-20 overall record.

In their Tuesday matchup versus Queens U, the Bears were down 42-31 going into the second half. Central Arkansas didn’t end up getting any closer on a 47-41 run from there and took the road loss 89-72 in the end. Leading the team in the losing effort was Brayden Fagbemi with 19 points, four assists, and two steals alongside one rebound in 35 minutes. Elias Cato added 15 points with three rebounds, while Michael Evbagharu had 12 points with five rebounds, three steals, and one assist. Tops off the bench was Ben Fox, who notched eight points in 19 minutes of work on the floor during the defeat.

West Georgia Wolves Betting Preview

Over on the West Georgia side, they’ve struggled this season as well. The Wolves lost to Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Tennessee Tech, South Florida, Troy, Georgia Southern, Utah Valley, North Dakota State, Samford, and Mercer in their first 10 games. A 3-3 run came next with wins over Tennessee Tech, Brewton-Parker, and Austin Peay. The next 11 games were a 2-9 run featuring losses to Lipscomb, Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson, Jacksonville, Central Arkansas, Queens U, Lipscomb, North Alabama, and Eastern Kentucky. That would give the Wolves a 5-22 run through their first 27 games of the season.

Matched up against North Alabama on Tuesday, the Wolves took a 37-31 deficit into the second half. West Georgia posted a 43-31 run the rest of the way for an 80-62 defeat. Shelton Williams-Dryden led the way with 27 points and 10 rebounds during the loss.

Why the West Georgia Wolves will win

  • Central Arkansas has lost each of its last nine road games against Conference opponents.
  • The home team has won the first half in each of West Georgia’s last three games.

Why the Central Arkansas Bears will win

  • West Georgia has lost six of its last seven games against the ASUN Conference.

Central Arkansas vs West Georgia Prediction

I’ll lean toward Central Arkansas here. There’s not a lot of intrigue involved here unless you’re a fan of either team, though. The Bears are coming off a pretty ineffective loss against a decent Queens team on Tuesday. In that one Central Arkansas shot well (47.9 percent) and rebounded well (a 31-22 advantage) but got buried by 18 turnovers that led to 30 Royals points. Central AR was pretty limp on defense as well, giving up 53.8 percent shooting from the field. That makes five losses in the last six games for the Bears; they’re not looking good right now.

The last time these teams met up back on January 29, the Bears pulled off a 75-70 home win. Central Arkansas shot a nice 48.3 percent from the field versus the Wolves’ 39.7 percent, but it was pretty comparable otherwise. Both teams were sloppy (28 total turnovers) so ball control needs to be a focal point in the rematch. Central Arkansas should have the advantage, but I’m probably not touching this one.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Central Arkansas Bears +4
