Southeast Missouri State Redhawks Betting Preview

It’s been a choppy year for the Redhawks so far, but they’ve been able to stay above the .500 mark overall. Southeast Missouri State lost to Bradley, Vanderbilt, Chattanooga, UNC Asheville, Lipscomb, and Murray State during a 3-6 opening, then beat Saint Mary of the Woods College, Eastern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville, Westminster MO, and Tennessee State in the next five. After a 2-4 run that featured losses to Tennessee Martin, Morehead State, Little Rock, and Lindenwood (with wins over Southern Indiana and Tennessee Tech), SEMO has won four straight. Those have come over Western Illinois, TN Martin, Tennessee State, and Morehead State for a 14-10 overall run through the first 24 games of the season. 

In the Morehead State matchup on Thursday, the Redhawks hit a nice opening half with a 38-22 advantage. Southeast Missouri State kept it up in the second with a 42-29 run and took the eventual win 80-51. Leading the team in scoring was Rob Martin with 27 points, two rebounds, five assists and two steals. BJ Ward added 16 points with two rebounds and two assists, while Brendan Terry chipped in eight points with four boards and four assists. 

Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Southern Indiana side, they didn’t start out terribly but they’ve been pretty choppy since mid-December or so. The Eagles beat Bellarmine, South Dakota, Indiana State, East-West, Shawnee State, and Tennessee State in their first 11 outings, then fell to TN Martin, Morehead State, Tennessee Tech, Southeast Missouri State, and Little Rock in the next five. It’s been a 3-4 run since then with wins over Lindenwood, Western Illinois, and Eastern Illinois mixed with losses to SIU Edwardsville, Morehead State, Tennessee Tech, and Little Rock in that time. The result in the record column so far has been a 9-14 overall run for the Eagles. 

Matched up against Little Rock in their Thursday outing, the Screaming Eagles came out of the locker room facing a 37-24 deficit. Southern Indiana didn’t get any closer than that in the end, falling further behind on a 37-32 run on the way to a 74-56 loss. Leading team scorer Stephen Olowoniyi finished with 15 points, seven boards, and one assist. Jayland Randall added 14 points with two assists and one steal in 33 minutes of action on the court.

I’ll stay with SEMO in this one. The Redhawks blasted a decent Morehead State in a road win during their last outing, shooting 54.8 percent from the field with a 38-28 rebounding edge and a whopping 25 points off 14 turnovers. Southeast Missouri State was great on defense too, holding the opposition to just 32.7 percent shooting. That makes 72 or more points in four straight games (all wins) with 80 or more in each of the last three. 

These teams last met up back on January 9 in a 77-66 home win for SEMO. The Redhawks didn’t have too much trouble in that one despite shooting just 40 percent from the field. If they can keep the scoring streak going, Southeast Missouri State shouldn’t have very many difficulties in the road rematch on Saturday.
