USC Upstate Spartans Betting Preview

The Spartans haven’t been able to find many wins so far this year, and they’ve managed consecutive victories just once all season. USC Upstate went 2-8 in their first 10 outings, falling to NC State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, UNC Wilmington, East Tennessee State, Queens U, Iowa, and Coastal Carolina in that time. The Spartans would beat Brevard and Western Carolina in their next pair before four more losses to South Carolina, South Carolina State, Youngstown State, and Winthrop. After another win over Presbyterian, the Spartans have since lost to Radford, UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Longwood, and Charleston Southern, giving the team a rough 5-18 overall record through 23 games so far this year. 

In the Wednesday matchup with Charleston Southern, the Spartans came out of the break with a 36-34 deficit. USC Upstate was outscored 46-41 the rest of the way in an eventual loss of 82-75 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Mister Dean with 22 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and two assists. Brit Harris came off the bench for 17 points with four assists in 21 minutes, and Andrew McConnell chipped in with 11 points in 30 minutes. 

Radford Highlanders Betting Preview

Over on the Radford side, they’ve got a rough stretch or two this season so far, but overall they’ve been doing fairly well in the record column. The Highlanders kicked off with a 9-2 run, taking out William & Mary, Old Dominion, Evansville, Southern Virginia, Chicago State, Fort Wayne, St. Francis PA, NC Central, and Bucknell during that time. A 1-4 run came next featuring losses to Utah, Colorado State, South Carolina, and High Point (and a lone win over Virginia Lynchburg). Since then it’s been a 4-3 run. The wins have come versus Winthrop, USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb, and Presbyterian in that time. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Charleston Southern, Longwood, and UNC Asheville for a 14-9 overall run so far this year. 

Matched up against UNC Asheville in their Wednesday outing, the Highlanders came out of the break looking up at a two-point deficit on the scoreboard. Radford didn’t end up getting any closer than that, eventually falling 72-65 after a 40-35 second half. Leading the team in scoring was Brandon Maclin with 19 points, four rebounds, and one steal. Jarvis Moss added 10 points with two rebounds and two assists. Leading the bench scorers was David Early with eight points and one rebound in 14 minutes of action on the floor.

USC Upstate vs Radford Prediction 

I’ll lean toward Radford. The Highlanders are coming off a loss to a pretty good UNC Asheville team, but this is a good opportunity to get back on track. In that loss, Radford put up just 35.5 percent shooting with 10 turnovers for 14 Bulldogs points. The Highlanders also allowed 49.1 percent shooting to UNC Asheville. Still, Radford has scored 74 or more points in five of the last seven games and should notch a nice total here. 

The last time these teams met up, Radford bagged an 80-67 road win on January 11. The Highlanders should be comfortable at home in this rematch and I don’t think they’ll have too many issues powering out a cover in the end.
