Hofstra Pride Betting Preview
The Pride kicked off their season on a pretty nice run, going 8-3 over the first 11 games. Hofstra’s losses in that time were versus Florida State, Houston, and Tarleton State. Otherwise, it was wins over Old Westbury, Iona, Seton Hall, UMass, Rice, Arkansas State, St. Joseph’s Long Island, and Norfolk State. A 2-4 stretch came next featuring wins over Northeastern and UNC Wilmington alongside losses to Temple, Quinnipiac, William & Mary, and Charleston. Since then it’s been a 1-3 run with a lone win over Delaware amid losses to Towson, Drexel, and Campbell for an 11-10 overall run through the first 21 games of this season.
In their matchup versus Campbell last weekend, the Pride hit a 36-20 advantage in the first half. Hofstra blew that lead in the second however, and eventually lost a tough one in overtime 69-67. Leading the team in the losing effort was Jean Aranguren with 14 points and two rebounds. Michael Graham posted a whopping 21 rebounds with 12 points for a double-double and Khalil Farmer led the bench scoring with 11 points and two assists.
Elon Phoenix Betting Preview
Over on the Elon side, they’ve been very consistent this year and haven’t lost consecutive games yet. The Phoenix went 3-3 over their first six with losses to North Carolina, Gardner-Webb, and Maine amid wins versus Bluefield U, Northern Illinois, and Notre Dame. An 8-1 run came next with wins over Navy, Penn, Wofford, Virginia Lynchburg, UNC Greensboro, Marshall, North Carolina A&T, and Hampton. Since then it’s been another 3-3 stretch with wins over Campbell, Drexel, and Monmouth alongside losses to William & Mary, Delaware, and Charleston. The result so far has been a 14-7 overall run through 21 games this year.
Matched up against the Cougars on Saturday, the Phoenix held a 35-29 deficit by the break. Elon didn’t get any closer than that in the end, falling further behind in a 41-33 second half for a 76-62 defeat in the end. TK Simpkins posted 20 points with three boards and two assists. Both Sam Sherry (seven boards) and Nick Dorn (five rebounds) each chipped in with 15 points. Brayden Crump posted all of the bench scoring (six) with his four rebounds.
Why the Elon Phoenix will win

- Hofstra has lost four of its last five games after coming off overtime.
Why the Hofstra Pride will win
- Hofstra has won 28 of its last 35 road night games against the Coastal Athletic Association.
Hofstra vs Elon Prediction
I’m going to stay with Elon, but I’m probably avoiding this one. Both teams have been quite erratic lately, and both could use a win. The Phoenix couldn’t hang with a pretty good Charleston team in their last game, getting outmuscled on the boards 40-33 with 13 turnovers for 22 Cougars points. The 41.8 percent shooting wasn’t so great either. Elon has been below 66 points in two of the last four games, but they’re generally a pretty good scoring team this season.
As for Hofstra, they owned the boards 41-30 versus Campbell in their latest loss and held the Camels to just 40.4 percent shooting. The problem? The Pride had 16 turnovers for 17 Campbell points, which proved to be the difference in the defeat. Hofstra has been below 68 points in seven of their last eight games, so it’s tough to imagine them keeping a cover pace on the road if Elon gets going on the scoreboard.
