The first seven outings were a 3-4 stretch, as the Grizzlies beat only Defiance, Toledo, and Wright State among losses versus Boise State, Illinois, Kansas, and Eastern Michigan. A 1-6 stretch came next with a lone win over Loyola Chicago among losses to Youngstown State, Michigan State, Cleveland State, Oregon State, Hawaii, and Arkansas. Since then it’s been a slightly better 3-2 stretch with losses to Robert Morris and Wright State. Otherwise, the wins came versus Milwaukee, Northern Kentucky, and IUPUI for a 7-12 overall record through the first 19 outings of the year.

In the IUPUI matchup on Wednesday, the Golden Grizzlies came out of the break sporting a 36-25 edge. Oakland stayed on top in the second half with a 36-34 run and took the eventual victory 72-59. Allen Mukeba led the team with his 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals in a stat-sheet-filling effort. Both Tuburu Naivalurua (three rebounds) and DQ Cole (three assists; three blocks) chipped in 14 points apiece in the win as well.

Detroit Titans Betting Preview

Over on the Detroit side, they’ve had even more issues with victories this year. The Titans have won consecutive games just once so far. The first five featured wins over Cleary, Niagara, and Ball State among losses to Loyola and Toledo. A rough 2-8 run came next with losses to Wake Forest, Tulsa, Rhode Island, Wright State, Davidson, Northern Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Youngstown State. Following a win over Robert Morris, the Titans took three more losses versus Milwaukee, IUPUI, and Fort Wayne, resulting in a 6-13 overall record thus far this year.

Matched up against Fort Wayne in their latest outing last weekend, the Titans were facing a 41-34 deficit by the second half. Detroit was outpaced 49-33 the rest of the way, resulting in a 90-67 defeat. TJ Nadeau was the team’s top scorer with 20 points eight boards and two steals. Both Nate Johnson (six rebounds; one assist) and Grand Gondrezick (six rebounds; five assists) contributed 19 points apiece in the losing effort as well.

Oakland vs Detroit Prediction

I’ll stick with Oakland I suppose. Probably not touching this one though, as there’s not a lot to get excited about here. The Grizzlies took care of a struggling IUPUI team in their last game, shooting 49 percent from the field with a 30-26 rebounding edge along the way. Oakland coughed up 14 turnovers in a pretty sloppy game (29 total turnovers) however. The Grizzlies haven’t been scoring too badly lately; they’ve hit 68 or more points in three of the last four games (a 2-2 run).

As for Detroit, they were highly permissive versus Fort Wayne in their last game, giving up 53.6 percent shooting from the field and giving away 12 turnovers for 22 Mastodons points. The Titans have been below 68 points in seven straight losses (and seven of eight overall), so I’m not super confident about their ability to set a cover pace here. I’m staying away, though.
