Tennessee Volunteers Betting Preview

The Volunteers opened up the year on an epic run, stringing together wins from November 4 to January 4 for a 14-0 start. Even with their first loss coming this past week, needless to say, Tennessee is still one of the most talented and dangerous teams in the nation. The Vols kicked things off with consecutive victories over Gardner-Webb, Louisville, Montana, Austin Peay, Virginia, Baylor, TN-Martin, Syracuse, Miami, Illinois, Western Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Norfolk State, and Arkansas. The Volunteers’ first loss of the season so far came versus Florida in their last outing, giving Tennessee a 14-1 start on the season so far.

In Tuesday’s matchup with Florida, the Volunteers were blitzed on the scoreboard right from the beginning. Tennessee limped into halftime with an ugly 34-15 deficit and didn’t make any headway in the second half on a 39-28 run for an eventual 73-43 blowout defeat. Leading the team in scoring during the loss were both Zakai Zeigler and Chaaz Lanier, who each had 10 points with a combined nine rebounds and five steals. Jordan Gainey accounted for all of the Volunteers’ bench points (seven) along with two rebounds and a block in 27 minutes of work.

Texas Longhorns Betting Preview

Over on the Longhorns’ side, they’ve had a pretty great season in the record column so far, but they’ve struggled against nationally ranked-teams. After an opener loss to Ohio State, Texas beat Houston Christian, Chicago State, Mississippi Valley State, Syracuse, Saint Joseph’s, Delaware State, and NC State. After another loss to UConn, Texas beat New Mexico State, Arkansas Pine Bluff, New Orleans, and Northwestern State. The next two games were both losses, however, as Texas fell to Texas A&M and Auburn, resulting in an 11-4 overall run.

In the Auburn matchup back on Tuesday, the Longhorns entered the second half sporting a 39-27 deficit. Texas got better from there on a 55-48 run but eventually took the loss 87-82 in the end. Tops in scoring was Arthur Kaluma with 34 points, eight boards, and two assists. Jordan Pope added 19 points with three steals and two rebounds, while Tre Johnson also finished in double-figures with 11 points, three rebounds, and two steals in 38 minutes.

Total Points Facts

Tennessee vs Texas Prediction

I’ll stay with Tennessee. All eyes will be on the Vols this weekend as they attempt to bounce back after a dismal blowout loss versus Florida. Tennessee was embarrassed on a miserable 21.4 percent shooting from the field, a 56-37 rebounding deficit, and 12 turnovers for 12 Gators points. Florida really didn’t shoot all that great themselves, however (39.7 percent), and had 12 turnovers as well. It was by far Tennessee’s lowest points total of the season (43) and probably will remain that way from here on out.

As for Texas, they’ve got a big job on their hands here. The Longhorns were competitive in the Auburn loss (a five-point result) but not the Texas A&M loss (a 20-point result), so it’s anyone’s guess how they’ll look here. In the end, I like Tennessee to assert themselves on the scoreboard, however, and pull off a convincing win/cover. It’ll be interesting, that’s for sure.
