Southern Miss Golden Eagles Betting Preview

The Eagles’ season got off to a reasonable start with a 2-1 run. The loss in that time was versus UAB in between wins over Bowling Green and Loyola New Orleans. Southern Miss stumbled to a 2-6 run over the next eight games, beating Milwaukee and Alabama State among losses to South Dakota State, Montana State, Abilene Christian, Tulane, Ole Miss, and Lamar. On Thursday versus James Madison, the Eagles held fairly strong in the first half, retiring to the locker room with a 33-31 deficit. Southern Miss was outscored 50-41 the rest of the way however, ending up with an 83-72 defeat. Tops in scoring during the loss was Andre Curbelo who came off the bench for a double-double on 24 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes of work. Cobie Montgomery added 12 points with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Christian Watson was also in double-figures with 11 points, three boards, and two assists in the losing effort.

Old Dominion Monarchs Betting Preview

Over on the Monarchs’ side, they hit the skids right out of the gate this season. Old Dominion lost to Buffalo, Arizona, and Radford in their first three games, but then recovered slightly with wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Randolph-Macon in the next pair. A 1-5 stretch followed as Old Dominion beat William & Mary among losses to Boston College, High Point, Duquesne, George Washington, and Northeastern. The next pair were both wins, however. Those came courtesy of Louisiana-Monroe and Virginia Wesleyan.

In the Arkansas State game on Thursday, the Monarchs weren’t looking too badly by halftime, trailing by a manageable 32-29 margin. The Monarchs were drilled in the second half however, falling behind on a 46-30 run and losing 78-59 in the end. Leading the team in the scoring department was Sean Durugordon with 21 points, eight boards, and three assists. Jaden Johnson added 18 points with seven rebounds and two assists, while Stephaun Walker had 10 boards with four points in 31 minutes of action. Top bench scorer Dani Pounds had three points in five minutes during the losing effort.

I’ll likely just stick with Old Dominion. I’m probably not touching this one, though. Both teams are coming off bad losses and there’s not a lot to get excited about here. It’ll be a good matchup, though. That said, Old Dominion needs a good bounce-back effort after posting just 26.6 percent shooting and 16.7 percent (4-of-24) from outside in their loss to a pretty good Arkansas State team. Old Dominion does have some good news lately, though. They’ve scored 70 or more points in four of their last five games. The bad news is that the Monarchs have gone just 2-3 in that time.

As for Southern Miss, they’ve scored pretty well themselves lately, with 68 or more points in three straight games. The Eagles had fewer than 66 points in three straight games prior to that however, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see another scoring dud (on either side, for that matter) on Saturday.
