Alabama State Hornets Betting Preview

Alabama State started out on a 3-2 run this year with wins over Virginia-Lynchburg, Omaha, and Lamar after losses to UNLV and LSU. The Hornets have since lost to Akron, Cincinnati, and SMU in their last trio.

In their matchup with SMU on Tuesday, the Hornets were behind by 10 points at the break and it only got worse from there in a 101-72 defeat. Amarr Knox led the team in the loss with 17 points in 25 minutes of work.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Southern Miss side, they have just three wins through their first seven games. Those victories came courtesy of Bowling Green, Loyola New Orleans, and Milwaukee. It’s been losses to UAB, South Dakota State, Montana State, and Abilene Christian otherwise.

I’ll probably lean toward Alabama State. There’s not a lot to get excited about here though, as both teams are struggling. That said, the Hornets have faced some tough teams lately, including SMU. In that Tuesday game Alabama State shot just 34.8 percent from the field and got out-rebounded 56-34 in a sizable loss. The Hornets were blown out by Akron and Cincinnati prior to that, however, they’ve generally done well versus comparable teams. 

As for Southern Miss, they shot a tepid 39.7 percent from the field with a 38-30 rebounding deficit against Milwaukee but still pulled off the win—thanks in part to 16 points off 17 Panthers turnovers. The Eagles have been below 67 points in two of the last three games and I don’t think they’ll control the pace here if Alabama State is playing well.
