Michigan Wolverines Betting Preview
Michigan’s season opened up with a blowout win 101-53 versus Cleveland State before a tough loss 72-70 versus Wake Forest. The Wolverines have won three straight since then, taking out TCU, Miami-OH, and Tarleton State.
In their Tarleton State game back on Thursday, the Wolverines held a 10-point edge at the break. Michigan hit a 32-19 run in the second for a big win 72-49. Roddy Gayle was the team’s leading scorer with 16 points and four rebounds.
Virginia Tech Hokies Prediction
Over on the Virginia Tech side, they got through their first three games unscathed with wins over Delaware State, USC Upstate, and Winthrop. The Hokies have since fallen in consecutive games to Penn State and Jacksonville.
In their matchup with the Dolphins on Wednesday, the Hokies held a comfortable 10-point lead by halftime. Virginia Tech imploded in the second half however, getting outscored 45-25 for a 74-64 loss. Mylyjael Poteat led the team on 15 points with eight boards.
Why the Virginia Tech Hokies will win
- Michigan has lost eight of its last nine games against non-AP-ranked opponents at a neutral venue.
- Virginia Tech has won nine of its last 10 Monday night games.
- Virginia Tech has won the first half in 17 of its last 22 night games against non-conference opponents.
Why the Michigan Wolverines will win
- Michigan has won each of its last four night games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
Michigan vs Virginia Tech Prediction
I’ll lean toward Michigan. The Wolverines demolished Tarleton State in their last outing, hitting a decent 44.6 percent from the field with 32 rebounds. I’d like to see some better shooting from the line (69.6 percent on 16-of-23) and 3-point range (27.3 percent on 6-of-22) against better opponents, however. That said, Michigan has notched 70 or more points in all five games this year and should be able to hit that threshold in Monday’s outing.
As for Virginia Tech, they had a horrendous second half against a middling Jacksonville team in their last game, eventually coughing up 16 turnovers and shooting just 41.1 percent from the floor. The Hokies have been below 65 points in three straight games (a 1-2 run) and won’t be able to keep a reasonable pace on Michigan if the Wolverines are playing decent basketball.
