The Islanders have played three games so far this year, with mixed results. Texas A&M-CC kicked things off last Monday versus Purdue and fell 90-73. On Friday versus Dallas Christian, the Islanders got their first win in blowout fashion 87-36.

I might take a stab at the Islanders here. Probably not touching it, though; I’d like to see a slightly thicker line. On Tuesday Texas A&M-CC couldn’t keep pace with a New Mexico team that’s been pretty good so far. The Islanders ended up with a nice 52.7 percent shooting from the field, 20 team assists, and a 39-37 rebounding advantage. That said, the Islanders also coughed up 22 turnovers. The good news is that Texas A&M-CC has scored 73 or more points in all three games so far, and 81 or more in the last pair. The Isles should do a fine job this year against comparable teams if all goes well.

As for New Mexico State, they’ve got a couple of wins versus overmatched teams so far this year and haven’t really been tested yet. In the Utah Tech game, the Aggies shot a nice 47.4 percent from the field with a 51-32 rebounding edge but did have 15 turnovers along the way. I like New Mexico State to play fairly well here also, but I think the Islanders can get into a cover themselves if all goes to plan.
