South Carolina State Bulldogs Betting Preview
The Bulldogs had a pretty nice season overall in 2024 but things ended on a down note. South Carolina State went 9-3 overall with a perfect 5-0 run in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. That effort would give the Bulldogs a conference championship as they finished atop the heap. After a berth in the Celebration Bowl however, South Carolina State ended their campaign with a loss to Jackson State 28-7 on December 14. The defeat snapped an eight-game win streak.
South Carolina State had a home matchup with Wofford in their first outing of 2025. In that one, the Bulldogs put up points in every quarter but still eked out a low-scoring win 16-15. QB William Atkins went 17-of-33 for 175 yards, and Ryan Stubblefield was 10-of-17 for 128 yards and a TD. KZ Adams carried 15 times for 50 yards while Jalen Johnson had six catches for 93 yards. Cyrus Ellison added five catches for 66 yards as well.
South Carolina Gamecocks Betting Preview
Over on the South Carolina side, they posted a pretty solid overall season themselves in 2024—the season similarly ended on a down note, however. The Gamecocks would ultimately go 9-4 overall with a 5-3 run in the SEC. Considering South Carolina was only predicted to win five games, the eighth nine-win season in program history was quite nice. The Gamecocks finished behind only Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Alabama in a crowded and talented conference lineup. Following a rough 3-3 start, South Carolina won six straight games before getting a spot in the Citrus Bowl against Illinois. The Gamecocks lost that game 21-17 on New Year’s Eve, though.
The Gamecocks had to wait until this past Sunday to open up their season with a matchup against Virginia Tech. In that one South Carolina couldn’t shake a pesky Hokies squad until late in the game, entering the fourth quarter with a slim 10-8 lead during a 24-11 victory. QB LaNorris Sellers went 12-of-19 for 209 yards and one touchdown. Oscar Adaway logged 14 carries for 60 yards and Nyck Harbor led the receivers on three catches for 99 yards. Sellers also recorded a rushing touchdown in the victory.

South Carolina State vs South Carolina Prediction
I’m probably going to stay with South Carolina. The Gamecocks couldn’t shake Virginia Tech until late in their opener, going just 4-of-12 on third-down tries with 16 first downs and eight penalties. Fortunately the defense came up pretty big in some key spots and South Carolina escaped with the win. This weekend’s matchup shouldn’t be as difficult—provided the Gamecocks can avoid the unforced errors.
As for the Bulldogs, they had some trouble dispatching a pesky Wofford team last weekend but ultimately got the job done with a 12-yard touchdown pass with just 89 seconds remaining in the game. The 74-yard drive was impressive, but it’s likely South Carolina State will need to put together a few of those (at least) in order to stay competitive here.
