Abilene Christian Wildcats Betting Preview
It’s more than fair to say that Abilene Christian exceeded expectations on the field last year. After being picked to finish way down in sixth place among the UAC in the preseason coaches’ poll, the Wildcats surged to a 9-5 overall record and went a nice 7-1 in the conference, winning the regular-season top spot. Abilene Christian was able to dispatch Northern Arizona in the First Round of the NCAA Division I playoffs but ultimately fell to North Dakota State 51-31 in the Second Round on December 7.
Head coach Keith Patterson will be back in action for his fourth year in 2025, but he’ll have a new crop of coordinators at his side. First-year offensive coordinator Graham Harrell will be joined by first-year co-defensive coordinators Nick Holt and Jarred Holley on the sidelines. The coaching staff has an unenviable task ahead of them in trying to repeat as conference champs. They’ve got to replace their top two rushers, top two wide receivers and an All-American starting quarterback. It’ll be no small feat getting back to the top of the proverbial mountain.
Tulsa Golden Hurricane Betting Preview
Over on the Tulsa side, they had opposite results in 2024. The Golden Hurricane limped to a 3-9 overall record and a 1-7 mark in American Athletic Conference play. Tulsa would eventually end up in the basement of the conference standings alongside Florida Atlantic. Head coach Kevin Wilson was fired with one game left to go in the year as Tulsa went on their way to a last-place finish in passing defense (316.0 yards per game) among the FBS.
The Golden Hurricane will start fresh in 2025 under first-year head coach Tre Lamb. He’ll be bringing along a quartet of fresh coordinators with him as the staff tries to inject some life into Tulsa’s on-field product. The good news is that there’s nowhere else to go but upward. The majority of the Golden Hurricane’s starting lineup will be made up of incoming transfers.

Abilene Christian vs Tulsa Prediction
I’m just going to stay with the Wildcats. After last year’s charmed season, Abilene Christian won’t be taking anyone by surprise this time. There are also plenty of question marks to deal with on the roster. The Wildcats will have to rely on ex-Marshall QB Stone Earle and last year’s third-string RB Rovaughn Banks alongside a handful of transfers on offense. Returning WRs JJ Henry and Javon Gipson look promising though, as does TE Jed Castles, who scored four times in 2024. The make-or-break area will be the offensive line, where all five starters had to be replaced. There’s not a whole lot of experience among the OL rotation as a whole, even with the incoming transfers.
On defense Abilene Christian is looking pretty solid experience-wise, though. All-American LB Will Shaffer is back in the fold, as is redshirt senior Darius Moore, who missed last year due to injury. If the Wildcats can keep things manageable on the defensive side of the ball—especially in these early games—they’ll give the offense some much-needed breathing room to develop chemistry. This opener may not be pretty, but I like Abilene Christian to power out a cover.
