Oklahoma Sooners Betting Preview

The Sooners started out the year on a nice 4-1 run with wins over Temple, Houston, Tulane, and Auburn. Unfortunately, Oklahoma limped into the finish with a 2-5 stretch, featuring losses to some great teams in Texas, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Missouri, and LSU.

On November 30 in their matchup with LSU, the Sooners were within a score at 24-17 by halftime. Oklahoma was outscored 13-0 from there however, resulting in a loss 37-17. Jackson Arnold threw for a tepid 110 yards, and also led the rush with 75 yards. JJ Hester topped the receivers on a lone 50-yard catch.

Navy Midshipmen Betting Preview

Over on the Navy side, they beat Bucknell, Temple, Memphis, UAB, Air Force and Charlotte before a pair of losses to Notre Dame and Rice. The Midshipmen are 3-1 since then with a lone loss to Tulane among wins versus South Florida, East Carolina and Army.

In the Army-Navy matchup on December 14, the Midshipmen held a 14-7 edge at the break. Navy kept it up on a 17-6 run from there and took the big win 31-13. Blake Horvath threw for 107 yards and two scores while also leading the rush on 204 yards and two more touchdowns. Tops in receiving was Eli Heidenreich with a 52-yard catch.

Oklahoma vs Navy Prediction

I’m going to stay with Navy here. We should have a pretty fun matchup regardless, though. The Midshipmen played very well against a great Army team in their last outing, giving up just 179 total yards (114 rushing) and 13 first downs alongside three takeaways (all picks). On the other side Navy managed 384 total yards (277 rushing) and had no turnovers. This year the Midshipmen average 33.2 points per game and know their strength: the rush. Navy’s running game has generated 249.3 yards per game with 35 touchdowns, so that will obviously be a focal point for Oklahoma.

Speaking of the Sooners, they’ve been pretty good this year, considering their tough schedule. Oklahoma gave up 395 yards and 18 first downs to an eight-win LSU team in their last outing and couldn’t score after halftime. That said, the Sooners average 24.3 points per game—which is decent among the difficult competition—and they’ve got a pretty balanced offensive attack. If Oklahoma can’t sufficiently slow down Navy’s rush, however, it’ll be a long game.
