UMass Minutemen Betting Preview

The Minutemen stumbled out of the gate this year with a string of losses. UMass fell 28-14 to Eastern Michigan in their opener, then dropped game two versus Toledo 38-23. In the Buffalo matchup, it was another defeat, this time 34-3 in blowout fashion.

Last weekend versus Central Connecticut, the Minutemen gave up 21 points in the second quarter but still held on for the 35-31 win in the end. Taisun Phommachanh threw for 287 yards and three scores. Jakobie Keeney-James added five catches for 95 yards and a TD.

Miami-OH RedHawks Betting Preview

Over on the Miami-OH side, their season got started with a matchup against Northwestern. The RedHawks could only muster a pair of field goals in a 13-6 loss there. Game two was another loss, as Miami-OH fell to Cincinnati 27-16.

In their latest outing versus Notre Dame, Miami-OH was outscored 14-0 in the second half on the way to a 28-3 loss. QB Brett Gabbert posted 119 yards and two interceptions. Leading the rush was Keyon Mozee with six totes for 36 yards.

UMass vs Miami-OH Prediction

I’ll stay with Miami-OH I suppose. Probably not touching this one, though. The RedHawks were mismatched against a tough Notre Dame team over the weekend, gaining just 229 total yards (119 passing) and 17 first downs. Miami-OH had 10 penalties, two turnovers, and converted just 2-of-12 on third downs as well. They’ll obviously match up much better versus UMass, however.

Speaking of UMass, they shot themselves in the foot with 15 penalties for 135 yards but still managed to power out the win thanks to a pretty good overall effort otherwise. I like the Minutemen to be competitive here as well but I don’t think they’ll cover if the RedHawks can bounce back.
