The Red Flash’s season kicked off with a matchup versus Dayton. St. Francis was fairly competitive in that one but still lost 18-10. The Flash managed their first win of the year in game two, powering past Kent State with a 23-17 result.
In last weekend’s matchup versus Central Connecticut State, the Flash had a 20-20 tie by the fourth quarter. St. Francis PA was shut down from there in a 27-20 loss. Jeff Hoenstine threw for 112 yards and an interception. DeMarcus McElroy had a good day on the ground with 124 yards and a score off nine carries.

Over on the Eastern Michigan side, they took on UMass in their first game of the 2024 campaign. The Eagles managed to post a 28-14 win in the end. EMU wasn’t so fortunate against Washington on September 7 however, losing sizably 30-9.
Back on Saturday versus Jacksonville State, the Eagles played a dramatic double-overtime thriller, edging out the Gamecocks 37-34. Cole Snyder threw for 273 yards and a pair of scores. Elijah Jackson-Anderson led the rush with 24 carries for 87 yards.

I’ll go with Eastern Michigan. Aside from their 11 penalties for 99 yards and 423 yards surrendered (311 passing), the Eagles had a pretty nice effort in their double-overtime win over Jacksonville State. EMU put up 447 yards of offense (295 passing), 27 first downs, and a solid 10-of-19 rate on third-down tries.
As for St. Francis PA, they had a rough fourth quarter and a pretty tepid day of passing offense. Hoenstine and Adrian Mejia combined for minus-31 rush yards as the Blue Devils' defense continually threatened the backfield. I like the Flash to hang around for a while here but I think EMU covers.
