Kansas State Looks for Real

Two weeks ago Kansas State didn’t look great against Tulane but they were able to squeak by. In the last game though Arizona lived up to the expectations and they were able to secure the 31-7 victory. Avery Johnson is a duel threat quarterback and he was running wild. He completed 14 of his 23 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 17 times for 110 yards. Jayce Brown was the top wide receiver catching three passes for 60 yards. The offense was good, but the defense was even more impressive. 

The defense gave up only seven points against a very good Arizona offense. They still allowed some passing through the air, but they really stepped up against the run. They also had one interception and creating turnovers will be key again here. If that can continue, Kansas State can win the Big 12. 

Can BYU Make a Statement?

BYU sits with a 3-0 record but they hope to make a statement with a win in this game. BYU so far this season has knocked off the Wyoming Cowboys, SMU Mustangs, and Southern Illinois Salukis. In the last game against Wyoming, BYU scored 34 points and they ended up winning by 20 points. Jake Retzlaff completed 22 of his 36 passes for 291 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. One area they could improve is the rushing game. 

The top rusher was Retzlaff who completed six carries for 62 yards. Miles Davis rushed eight times for 15 yards. Against SMU two games ago the defense wasn’t great. They gave up only 15 points, but the defense gave up 18 points. In this game, if BYU wants to win this game they are going to need the defense to be strong.

Kansas State made a statement in the last game, but I don’t think they are going to dominate as much in this game. BYU’s defense has been good in the first three games of the season and it’s going to be the same here. BYU is going to find a way to slow down Avery Johnson and that will be the difference here as BYU is going to keep it close. I think BYU can win this game outright but we will take the points to be safe. Back BYU to cover the spread.
