Jessica Pegula enters this final group match at the 2025 WTA Finals with qualification hopes potentially in her hands. Pegula has a 1-1 record in the round robin stage so far, beating Coco Gauff in three sets and then losing to World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a tense three-set match. Pegula had led Sabalenka by a break at the start of the third set, but won one of the next six games.

Now, all Pegula has to do is win her match against Paolini and then whoever wins the group or finishes second will come down to the result of the match between Coco Gauff and Sabalenka.

Jasmine Paolini is already eliminated. The Italian was the second last player to secure her spot among the final eight at the WTA Finals and making her second appearance in the tournament. And just like last year, Paolini has been knocked out in the group stage, although she did score a round robin victory over Rybakina.

This time, Paolini lost her opening match to Sabalenka 3-6, 1-6 and then fell to Gauff 3-6, 2-6 in the second match. All that’s left to play for now is additional prize money, with each win counting towards the player’s compensation.
