Alexander Zverev is making his fourth participation. He has played in every edition of this tournament and helped Germany win the title back in 2024 in the most dramatic of circumstances. The 28-year-old marks his return to Sydney, where she will be joined by new WTA top 40 player Eva Lys in a very tough group containing two-time finalists Poland and a hungry Dutch team.

Zverev did not have a largely impressive year by his standards, although he did reach another Grand Slam final at the Australian Open, but lost to Jannik Sinner in straight sets. His only title of the season was the ATP 500 in Munich. He lost two more finals and failed to qualify for the ATP Finals semifinals. Overall, he posted a 57-26 record and held onto a top-three spot.

Tallon Griekspoor is making his second appearance at the United Cup. He lost both singles matches on his previous visit back in 2024. But Griekspoor won’t dwell on past losses as he plots to guide the Netherlands into the knockout stage while serving as team captain and the no. 1 singles player.

Griekspoor was on the cusp of a top 20 breakthrough in 2025, although he ultimately settled at No. 26. He compiled 33 wins and 25 losses. He picked up his third career title at the ATP 250 in Mallorca. Griekspoor was a quarterfinalist in Indian Wells, where he secured a big win over Zverev in the tournament, and he was a runner-up in Marrakech. 

His results in the second half of the last season did not match those of the first and at one point, he lost seven matches in a row. Griekspoor’s season ended with a first-round defeat at the Paris Masters.
