With some of his rivals already dropping sets in the opening two rounds, the American has been near-perfect and I expect that to continue on Saturday.

At Monfils’ physical peak, maybe the Frenchman would have been worth a shout to win this match. Now at 38, he just doesn’t possess the stamina to go toe-to-toe with an in-form Fritz in a best-of-five format. Fritz must be considered one of the contenders to win the Australian Open. Monfils probably wins a set, but that’s as good as it will get for him in this match. That seven-match win streak will come to a halt here.
