Casper Ruud survived another major test at the Stockholm Open after seeing off Sebastian Korda in a tough three-set match. Ruud and Korda played a 60-minute first set after each player broke serve once, and it was a tiebreak that settled it. Ruud led 5-3 in the tiebreak, but it was Korda who finished on a flourish, winning four points in a row to turn it around.

Ruud was able to break Korda for a second time midway through the second set, and the Norwegian saved four break back points while serving for the set at 5-4 up. Ruud held to level the match. In the third set, Korda lost his composure early on and Ruud got a decisive break, which he never relinquished, eventually wrapping up a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory in two hours and 31 minutes.

Denis Shapovalov, meanwhile, progressed to the Stockholm Open semifinals for a third time. And the last two, the Canadian made it to the final, winning the tournament back in 2019. Shapovalov bested Elias Ymer in three sets.

Shapovalov won the first set 6-4 and was a game away from clinching it in straight sets, but could not serve out the match at 5-3. Ymer leveled and took the set into a tiebreak, which he won. Shapovalov’s collapse was only temporary. The Canadian lefty broke serve twice in the third set to complete a 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 victory in two hours and 38 minutes.

I’m siding with Shapovalov for this one. He’s got an excellent track record competing in Stockholm. He’s won the title once in the past and was the runner-up four years ago. But what makes the Canadian ever dangerous is that in indoor conditions, his firepower is brutal and effective in breaching most tight defenses. Give me Shapovalov at plus money.
