Sinner vs Lehecka Preview
Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the Miami Open in straight sets. The match took 22 games to decide and it was a lot tighter than their last meeting in Indian Wells. Sinner won the first set 6-3 with just one break of serve. The second stayed on serve for all 12 games and it was decided in a tiebreak. Sinner won it after Zverev made a mess with an overhead at a crucial point. In the victory, Sinner hit 28 winners and 24 unforced errors. Sinner fired 15 aces without a single double fault. Sinner landed 74% of first serves in play and won 79% of first serve points (45/57). He won 50% of second serve points (10/20) and saved both break points he faced on serve. Sinner is bidding to become the eighth man to complete the Sunshine Double (winning Indian Wells and Miami in the same season).
Meeting Sinner in the final is Czech star Jiri Lehecka, who will compete in his first Masters 1000 final. He is looking to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Jakub Mensik, who won the title last year after upsetting Novak Djokovic. But Lehecka’s odds are even greater as he faces an in-form Sinner in the final.
Lehecka is coming off a straight-sets win over Arthur Fils in a very one-sided semifinal, with both sets finishing 6-2, 6-2 in Lehecka’s favor. The match lasted an hour and 17 minutes. Fils, who saved four match points in the last eight, did not have the energy to hang around for too long as he was overpowered from the back of the court.
