Reilly Opelka Preview

It’s the first time since 2022 that Reilly Opelka is competing in the first quarter of the season. Opelka is back inside the top 150 after recovering from injury and enjoying some good results of late.

The former World No. 17 has posted a 7-3 record in 2025 and has not lost a first-round match. He reached his first ATP final in three years at the Brisbane International last month. During that week, he defeated 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Unfortunately for Opelka, his body did not hold up for one more cameo, and retired in the championship match.

The injury, however, was not detrimental to Opelka’s renaissance. He reached the second round of the Australian Open, losing to Czech rising star Tomas Machac in five sets.

Opelka played in his first tournament outside Australian soil this past week in Dallas where he made the last eight and lost to Tommy Paul in straight sets. 

Opelka is a former champion in Delray (won in 2020) and was a runner-up in his last appearance in 2022.

Christopher Eubanks Preview

Christopher Eubanks is looking to return into the world’s top 100 and the 28-year-old is not far off from that goal as he is currently ranked 104th in the ATP rankings.

Eubanks’ low ranking means that he’ll need to get some wins on the Challenger Tour on a consistent basis and was a quarterfinalist in Canberra during the opening week of the season at the second tier.

He lost in the final round of qualifying for the Australian Open and immediately traveled to Europe to compete at the Oeiras Challenger and then the Montpellier Open. But he only won one main draw match.

Eubanks has made it back to the USA and played in Dallas this past week. He won two qualifying matches but was ousted in the first round of the main draw by Matteo Arnaldi.

While Eubanks has won a lot on outdoor hard courts since the start of last season, it is important to note that Opelka didn’t start his 2024 campaign until July after a longstanding injury. Both players are massive servers but it is Opelka who is likelier to fashion the better chances on the return and likely pinch a break or two here. It’s a matchup that tends to be decided by very subtle moments, but I like Opelka to win.
