Polona Hercog overcame World No. 206 Elvina Kalieva in straight sets to reach her second semifinal of the season. Hercog beat the young American 6-3, 6-1 in precisely an hour to pick up her ninth match win of an injury-disrupted season.

Jeanjean starts as the rightful favorite in this semifinal in Quito. She’s the higher-ranked player and with a better win rate and strong form throughout 2025. Hercog has not played a lot of tennis this year due to injury, but she’s been enjoying every minute of action in Quito with a couple of odds-defying performances, and her experience can make Jeanjean uncomfortable and fold under pressure. That said, Jeanjean has the higher week-to-week flow and I reckon she’ll do enough to avoid the upset.
