Naomi Osaka Preview

Naomi Osaka reached her second final of the season with a three-set win over Leolia Jeanjean in Saint Malo. Osaka took the first set 6-2 in 42 minutes, but dropped her serve twice in the second set as Jeanjean levelled. In the third set, Osaka saved a breakpoint in the opening and third game, and delivered a bagel to round off a deserved win.

Osaka had beaten Marcinko, Parry, and Jacquemot earlier in the tournament. She has lost two sets en route to the final. Osaka’s decision to take a wild card for Saint Malo was unsurprising. She crashed out of the Madrid Open in the first round and didn’t play any clay-court tournaments before that. Osaka has compiled a 13-6 record for the season.

She is searching for her first title since 2021. The Japanese star came close in Auckland in January, where she won the first set of the final but retired due to injury. 

Kaja Juvan Preview

Kaja Juvan played just one tournament in 2024, and is now returning to action in 2025. This will be her first final of the season. The Slovenian took out the experienced Viktorija Golubic in straight sets. Juvan trailed 2-4 in the first set, but won four straight set games to win the set. She rallied from a breakdown in the second set, which was topsy-turvy, but which still ended in her favor 6-4.

Juvan had beaten Minnen, Naef and Volynets before that. She has compiled a 17-6 win-loss record in 2025, with most wins coming on the ITF Tour. Juvan’s last title was on the ITF circuit in 2019. She has never lifted hardware at Tour level on at the WTA 125K level. This is her first final since 2022 Strasbourg where she lost an epic match to Angelique Kerber.

Osaka opens as the favorite here at -285. She’s aiming to win her first title as a mother. She almost achieved that in Auckland, where she led Clara Tauson by a set, but sadly had to retire because of an abdominal injury. She’s looked fit and determined all tournament in Saint Malo. While the stakes are lower at this level, victory will still taste sweeter and probably serve as the spark needed to ignite her season.
