Jakub Mensik vs Zizou Bergs Preview

Jakub Mensik kicked off the tournament with a highly satisfying win over Casper Ruud as Czechia defeated Norway 3-0. That put them in the ascendancy in their group until they met home nation Australia in the second tie. Mensik was tasked to face Australia’s top 10 player Alex De Minaur.

The 20-year-old Czech fell in straight sets. The match took 17 games to decide as De Minaur completed a routine 6-4, 6-1 victory in an hour and 32 minutes. In the defeat, Mensik hit 2 aces and 3 double faults. He landed 59% of first serves in play and won 68% of first serve points (23/34). Mensik won 33% of second serve points (8/24) and saved two of six break points. Czechia lost the tie 2-1, but still qualified as the best second-placed nation in Sydney.

Belgium defied the odds to reach the United Cup quarterfinals with a sensational 3-0 win over Team Canada. Going into the tie, Belgium needed a clean sweep of wins to be assured of a last eight spot and they did so when Bergs set them on their way. The World No. 2 earned his biggest career win by toppling World No. 5 Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets.

It was a result that not many so coming. Bergs earned the only break of the first set in the opening game and suffocated the court with his powerful forehand. He won the set 6-4 without facing any resistance. The second set couldn’t have gone any better for Bergs, who saved three crucial break points in the third game and went on to break Auger-Aliassime’s serve twice and eventually wrapped up the match 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 29 minutes.

Jakub Mensik vs Zizou Bergs Prediction

Bergs produced a phenomenal performance against Auger-Aliassime, but the World No. 5 looked a little sluggish with his movement and ball striking. Mensik is 1-1 in the tournament, beating Ruud convincingly before losing to home player De Minaur. This will be an intriguing battle of heavy forehands and if Bergs can stay clutch with that shot, he could cause an upset.

Nur Said's Pick: Zizou Bergs in three sets
