Marta Kostyuk is coming off a quarterfinal defeat to Aryna Sabalenka at the Madrid Open. Kostyuk has compiled a solid 14-10 record, having also made a quarterfinal at the WTA 1000 in Doha three months ago. This will be Kostyuk’s fifth main draw visit to Rome. Her best result was reaching the third round in 2023. Last year, she was knocked out in the second round stage by Naomi Osaka. Kostyuk won eight of 13 matches on clay last season and is already 3-1 this year.

Alexandra Eala Preview

Alexandra Eala is one of the WTA’s breakout stars of 2025. She broke into the top 100 after her historic run to the Miami Open semifinals in late March. During the fortnight in Florida, Eala sent shockwaves around the tennis world, beating three grand Slam champions, including reigning French Open and Australian Open winners Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys. Her campaign was eventually ended by Jessica Pegula.

After Miami, Eala has played in two tournaments, but didn’t progress beyond the second round. She lost Panna Udvardy at the Oeiras ITF and to Swiatek in Madrid. That said, she is still a solid 16-10 for the season and is up to a career high of No. 70 in the WTA rankings. The 19-year-old is the first-ever WTA player from the Philippines to be ranked in the top 100. Eala has never played at the Italian Open in the past. This will be her debut appearance in Rome.
