Barbora Krejcikova is a surprise entrant at this year’s WTA Limoges 125K tournament on indoor hard courts. She is the No. 3 seed. Krejcikova started the year as a top 10 player but fell as low as 80th at one point this season before hauling herself to No. 65 in the WTA rankings.

Krejcikova missed four and a half months of the 2025 season because of injury and she surrendered her Wimbledon crown in the third round, where she lost to Emma Navarro and ending up dropping so many points. But she had some consistent results on hard courts in the second half of the season, making the last 16 in Cincinnati and the quarterfinals of the US Open. Krejcikova’s last tournament of the WTA season was in Beijing in late September, where she retired in the third set of her third round match against McCartney Kessler because of a knee issue.

Anastasija Sevastova is ranked outside the top 200, but it’s still a noticeable improvement considering she was ranked No. 667 back in February. Sevastova has managed to return from a maternity break after a lengthy period of inactivity, playing a handful of WTA Tour tournaments and managing to beat some accomplished names. Her run to the fourth round of Montreal was particularly memorable. Sevastova earned a rare top 10 win against defending champion Jessica Pegula. But she finished the WTA season with two wins from her last four tournaments. 

Sevastova then played an ITF tournament last month, where she won two matches to reach the quarterfinal stage. There, she was beaten by Aliona Falei in straight sets. This will be her third appearance in Limoges. In 2023, Sevastova advanced to the last eight stage.

Two former top 20 players will grace this WTA 125K event, but the obvious surprise is to see Krejcikova kicking off her season in Limoges. It’s the first time she’s playing at this event in a decade and that suggests she’s looking to get match fit for the 2026 season after a ranking downfall in the second half of 2025 caused by recurring injuries. But even with injury concerns, I’m still leaning Krejcikova. When she’s healthy her shot production and all-court game are on a different level and a player like Sevastova, who is crafty, lacks the punch in her shots to consistently hit through her.
