Jack Draper began his grass swing in his home tournament at Queen’s Club in London. The British lefty is the second seed in this tournament, behind only Carlos Alcaraz among the top-ranked players. Draper started the event with a clinical 6-3, 6-1 win against American Jenson Brooksby.

Draper then overcame a sterner test in the round of 16, recovering from a set down to beat Alexei Popyrin in three sets. Popyrin saved two match points at 4-5 in the third set and forced a deciding set tie-break, but Draper just edged it in the end 7-5.

Draper finished with an 8-2 record on grass last year, and reached the quarterfinals of this tournament after upsetting Alcaraz. But this time, Draper is expected to march into the final after a career-best season saw him break into the top 5 of the ATP rankings.


Brandon Nakashima Preview
Brandon Nakashima is unseeded at Queen’s and started the tournament with a massive win over big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Nakashima needed three and a half hours to see off the Frenchman 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.

In the second round, Nakashima defeated Dan Evans, who earlier in the tournament accounted for a win over Frances Tiafoe, clearing Nakashima’s path. The American won 7-5, 7-6 in almost two hours. He hammered eight aces and won 79% of first serve points (42/53) in the match.

Nakashima’s win is a reward in the last eight at Queen’s for the first time. Last year, he compiled a 9-5 record on grass. This year, he’s made it to his second grass-court quarterfinal. He lost in this stage in Stuttgart this past week.
