Iga Swiatek is coming off a straight sets win over former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka. The match took 14 games to decide. Swiatek won 6-0, 6-2 in an hour and 15 minutes.

In the victory, Swiatek compiled 31 winners and nine unforced errors only. Swiatek landed 79% of first serves in play and won 73% of first serve points (27/37).

Swiatek won just 30% of second serve points (3/10) and saved three of four break points on her serve. The Pole won 63% of return points (29/46) and broke Azarenka’s serve six times.

Swiatek marches into the third round and hasn’t been beaten in Dubai before the semifinal since 2022.

Dayana Yastremska beat Russia’s Anastasia Potapova 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 19 minutes to reach the last 16 in Dubai for the first time since 2022 when she was a quarterfinalist.

In the victory, Yastremska hit 32 winners and 18 unforced errors. That included three aces and two double faults.

Yastremska landed 55% of first serves in play and won 68% of first serve points (19/28). 

The Ukrainian won 74% of second serve points (17/23) and saved two of three break points on her serve.

Yastremska won 49% of return points (32/65) and broke Potapova four times in the match.

Swiatek has done a lot of winning this season but has no titles to show for her efforts (13-3 record in 2025). It’s very possible that first title of the year might come in Dubai where she was so close a couple of years ago (lost to Barbora Krejcikova in the final). Yastremska is a ferocious hitter but lacks regulation in her shots. To beat Swiatek, it takes more than unbridled power and the Ukrainian is one-dimensional in that regard.
