In the second round, he beat veteran Richard Gasquet who is due to retire at this year’s Roland Garros, also in straight sets.

But the match was a lot closer, with Hanfmann fighting back from 2-4 down in the opening set and winning it in a tie-break. The German secured the one break he needed in the second set to clinch victory, converting his third match point.

Hanfmann has reached the second-round stage in each of his two previous visits to this tournament.

The only reason why I can’t forecast this being one-sided is that it is the opening match of the season and the top players are always at risk of being caught cold. Still, I would be shocked if Dimitrov didn’t close this out in straight sets.
