Felix Auger-Aliassime beat Jesper de Jong to reach his second final of 2025 in Montpellier. The Canadian has won each of his three matches this week in straight sets, featuring on average 21.5 games.

Auger-Aliassime started his campaign with a 6-4, 7-6 win against Arthur Cazaux. Then, he took out China’s Yunchaokete Bu, before sealing his place in the final with another 6-4, 7-6 win against de Jong.

In the semifinal victory which took about two hours, Auger-Aliassime hammered 12 aces and six double faults. He landed 60% of first serves in play and won 74% of first serve points (31/42).

Auger-Aliassime won 57% of second serve points (16/28) and saved two of three break points. 

Behind the return, Auger-Aliassime won 41% of return points (35/86) and converted two of 13 break points.

This will be his 17th career final and first on an indoor hard court since 2022 Basel. Auger-Aliassime has won six and lost 10 finals.

Aleksandar Kovacevic Preview

Aleksandar Kovacevic reached his first ATP final in style. The American one-hander toppled top seed Andrey Rublev in Saturday’s semifinal. 

The match took 22 games to decide with Kovacevic prevailing 7-5, 6-4 in an hour and 36 minutes.

Kovacevic hit nine aces and only one double fault in the match. He landed 53% of first serves in play and won 80% of first serve points (33/41).

Kovacevic won 50% of second serve points (18/36) and saved four of five break points. The World No. 102 won 33% of return points (18/55) and broke Rublev three times in the match. 

Kovacevic is a five-time champion on the ATP Challenger level.

Auger-Aliassime starts as the favorite here with a wealth of experience in championship matches (17 in total now) and has lifted six titles. His serve has been a bedrock all tournament in Montpellier, only dropping it twice.

For Kovacevic, this is new ground. A memorable week could still have a cherry on top, but beating the top two seeds in back-to-back matches to win a maiden title at the first opportunity is a tall order. He was also outplayed when he met Auger-Aliassime in their first meeting in Cincinnati last season. I believe the outcome rests on Auger-Aliassime. He’s got this match on his racket. If he executes his game plan as he has done all week, there is no reason why he shouldn’t put an end to Kovacevic’s fairytale run.
