Emma Raducanu will play in her second WTA tournament of 2025 and that will be the inaugural Singapore Open.

Raducanu will be without the services of coach Nick Cavaday who has stepped down from his role because of health reasons.

It means Raducanu will be in the market for a new coach for the umpteenth time and it’s fair to say many casual fans have lost count by now.

The Briton played superbly in the first two rounds of the Australian Open despite suffering a major setback in her preparations. The former US Open missed the warm-up tournament in Auckland because of a back injury, but still won two rounds against two Top 40 players in Ekaterina Alexandrova and Amanda Anisimova.

But she was powerless to stop an Iga Swiatek shellacking in the third round. Raducanu won just one game against the Pole raising fresh concerns that she picked up another injury.

Like last year, Raducanu will play immediately after the first Grand Slam of the season finished and will be the seventh seed in Singapore.

Cristina Bucsa Preview

Cristina Bucsa is a former Top 60 player but is outside the Top 100 currently. She has never lifted a WTA Tour title, but owns four on the ITF circuit and is also a champion at the WTA 125K level when she triumphed in Limoges in 2023.

Bucsa started the new season in Brisbane where she fell to a first-round defeat at the hands of Anca Todoni. She then headed to Adelaide where she lost in qualifying to Katerina Siniakova.

Her winless start ended at the Australian Open when she beat the lower-ranked Chloe Paquet. In the second round, she nearly pulled off a shock win over Leylah Fernandez, but lost in three sets.

I’m all in on Raducanu. She’s vastly more talented than Bucsa and on this surface, she has the higher ceiling. The question has always been whether she can stay fit for a considerable period during the season and that answer has consistently been a no. Still, with nine wins from her last 13 matches on hard courts, she can be trusted to get the job done.
