Elena Rybakina, seeded 12th, beat the USA’s Iva Jovic in the last round. Rybakina recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win to reach the third round stage of the French Open for the fifth time. Rybakina lost her serve once in the first set, but broke Jovic twice to win the set 6-3. In the second set, Rybakina broke Jovic two more times to seal a straight-sets win. She hit 25 winners in total and 32 unforced errors.  Rybakina accounted for five aces and one double fault. Rybakina landed 61% of first serves in play and won 69% of first serve points (24/35). She won 64% of second serve points (14/22) and saved two of three breakpoints.

With the win, the Kazakh improves to 8-2 on clay this season. She is on a six-match winning streak. Rybakina is a two-time quarterfinalist at Roland Garros, and made the last eight when she played here 12 months ago. Jelena Ostapenko is the 21st seed and a former French Open champion. But since her maiden Grand Slam success at 20 in 2017 French Open, Ostapenko had reached the third round stage only once before this week. That has now changed after the Latvian notched a couple of hard-fought three-setters. First, she defeated Polina Kudermetova 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. In the second round, Ostapenko overcame Caroline Dolehide 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. In the victory over the American, which took two hours, Ostapenko hammered 35 winners and 37 unforced errors. 

She tallied four aces and seven double faults. Ostapenko landed 57% of first serves in play and won 67% of first serve points (35/52). Ostapenko won 45% of second serve points (18/40) and saved four of eight breakpoints in the match. Ostapenko owns a 9-3 record on clay in 2025. She won the WTA 500 in Stuttgart, beating the world’s top two during the week. But she didn’t have a great deal of success in Madrid and Rome.
