Elena Rybakina and Beatriz Haddad Maia meet in the semifinal of the WTA Strasbourg Open on Friday, May 23. Here’s our Elena Rybakina vs Beatriz Haddad Maia prediction. This preview will also include an Elena Rybakina vs Beatriz Haddad Maia pick.
Elena Rybakina Preview
Elena Rybakina is the fourth seed at the Strasbourg Open and reached the last four of the tournament courtesy of two wins. Rybakina received a bye in the first round. In the second round, she hammered six aces past Xinyu Wang to record a 6-1, 6-3 victory in 65 minutes. In the quarterfinal, Rybakina downed Poland’s Magda Linette in straight sets. The first set between them lasted for nearly an hour, and it stayed on serve until the 12th game when Rybakina broke to take a 7-5 lead.
In the second set, the tall Kazakh secured the break in the eighth game and held to love in her next service game to complete a 7-5, 6-3 win in under two hours. Rybakina picked up only her fourth win in six matches on clay courts this season. It’s also the first time she’s won back-to-back matches at the Tour level since Indian Wells. Rybakina improves to 21-9 in 2025 and will contest her first semifinal in Strasbourg after two previous quarterfinal defeats in the tournament.
Beatriz Haddad Maia Preview
Beatriz Haddad Maia earned an incredible win over second seed Emma Navarro in the quarterfinals of the Strasbourg Open. Haddad Maia lost the first set 3-6 in 57 minutes, dropping her serve at a crucial point in the sixth game. In the second set, the Brazilian lefty dropped her serve in the fifth game, and the 11th game, but Navarro did not consolidate that advantage, and the set was settled in a tie-break. And it was Haddad Maia who played the clutch tennis in the breaker to level the match. That collapse broke Navarro’s spirit.
Haddad Maia took a commanding 3-0 lead at the start of the third set and did not surrender that advantage to close out a 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory in three hours. Haddad Maia had beaten Clara Tauson and Ashlyn Krueger earlier in the tournament in a complete turnaround of her fortunes.
Elena Rybakina vs Beatriz Haddad Maia Head-To-Head
Rybakina leads Haddad Maia 2-1 in the head-to-head, although she earned a retirement win in their last meeting at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
Elena Rybakina vs Beatriz Haddad Maia Prediction
I’m not looking past a comfortable Rybakina win here. She’s been rock solid all week. When she gets this far, you can almost bank on the Kazakh to win the tournament. Rybakina’s huge advantage in matchups is her dominant serve, which has not been broken so far. With her massive returns, Haddad Maia will certainly pose a threat, but the Brazilian doesn’t quite have the power to match. Give me Rybakina for a spot in Saturday’s final.
