Denis Shapovalov will need no reminding of his last visit to Dallas. He lost in his opening match to Chinese undercard Yibing Wu in straight sets. Wu went on to make history, becoming China’s first-ever ATP champion. 

But that defeat broke Shapovalov whose season ended after Wimbledon and returned to competitive tennis in January 2024. The Canadian’s ranking tanked to 140th.

He took a while before he regained his form, achieving his first decent run in Miami by making the third round. But it was not until the second half of last season that Shapovalov came to life. 

Shapovalov was a quarterfinalist in Washington and Basel and put a capstone to a difficult season by lifting his second ATP title in Belgrade.

Miomir Kecmanovic Preview

Miomir Kecmanovic has compiled seven wins from 11 matches, which is a slightly better run. He’s been winning matches. He started the year with a round of 16 finish in Hong Kong, losing to eventual champion Alexandre Muller in three dramatic sets.

He performed better in Adelaide, reaching the semis there and losing to in-form Sebastian Korda. Kecmanovic’s Australian Open campaign ended in the third round at the hands of Holger Rune, although he did beat Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets before that.

His most recent appearance was in the Davis Cup qualifying where he met Rune for a second time and lost in singles. Serbia lost the tie 3-2.

Kecmanovic will be competing in Dallas for the second time in his career. He lost to Emilio Gomez on debut two years ago.
