Coco Gauff is the second seed at the 2025 French Open thanks to her rise to the World No. 2 ranking after the Italian Open. Gauff was one of the most consistent players in the buildup to Roland Garros, reaching successive finals at the two biggest clay-court tournaments outside the French Open. She was a runner-up in Madrid, where she lost to World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, and in Rome, where she lost to Jasmine Paolini. Gauff has an 11-3 record on clay this term, with a quarterfinal run in Stuttgart also on her stats board. 

Gauff is yet to win a title this season on the WTA Tour and has lost the opening match of a tournament twice in 2025 on hard courts. This is her sixth French Open main draw. She was a finalist back in 2022 (lost to Iga Swiatek) in what is her career-best result in singles. She is one half of the curernd defending champions of the French Open women’s doubles.

Olivia Gadecki Preview

Olivia Gadecki is ranked 91st in the WTA rankings. Gadecki has fallen from her career-high of No. 83. But after four previous unsuccessful attempts in French Open qualifying, the Aussie will enter the main draw by virtue of her top 100 ranking. Gadecki has a 5-6 record on clay this season, earning over half of those wins during her run to the semifinal of the ITF Zaragoza. She then lost in Madrid qualifying to Panna Udvardy of Hungary and the round of 16 of the WTA 125K in Saint-Malo.

Gadecki’s most recent tournament appearance was in Rome, where she earned a spot in the main draw as a lucky loser. But she was knocked out at the first hurdle by big-hitting Caroline Dolehide in three sets. Gadecki has a paltry six wins from 21 matches this season and has lost three times in her last four matches.

Gauff is the favorite at -2500, and I can see her controlling this match from the outset. She’s one of the best movers on this surface and has been one of the standout players this swing, with two successive finals to her name. I fully expect the American to raise her game and make short work of Gadecki, who is having a poor season and will be chasing shadows under the Parisian sun.
